The ISO 14001 foundation training starts from the concepts of the environment and the environmental management system and works through the requirements of the standard. The training covers the context of the organization and the environmental expectations of interested parties, the environmental policy and leadership, the identification of environmental aspects and the evaluation of significant environmental impacts, compliance obligations (legal and other), environmental objectives and programmes, the life cycle perspective, emergency preparedness and response, operational control, monitoring and measurement, internal audit, management review and continual improvement. The clauses of the standard are explained with examples and participants identify the environmental aspects of their own activities. The training can be delivered in-house or as open enrolment, face to face or online.
The training suits environmental and quality teams, process and unit owners, managers and employees who want to understand the environmental management system; there is no prerequisite. A certificate of attendance or achievement is issued at the end of the training. ISO 14001 training does not by itself give the organization the ISO 14001 certificate; certification is obtained through the audit of an accredited body, and the training prepares the organization for that process.
