Why GOST-R Is Required
GOST-R is required for the following reason. For exports to the Russian Federation and Russian-speaking countries, across all CIS countries (Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Armenia, Tajikistan, and Belarus), a quality-certificate declaration is mandatory. For all products imported into these countries, certification has been mandatory since the Russian State Customs Committee (GTK) notice of 1 October 2000. Products without certificates cannot pass customs, and a quality certificate is required for their sale.
For uncertified products you export, the buying firms are forced to obtain a temporary certificate at customs on your behalf, which becomes an additional cost for the buyer. For your customers to legally sell your product in their home markets and for your product to pass customs cleanly, you must register your products and brand through the GOST-R body, which plays a role similar to the TSE institution in Turkey.
