RoHS compliance testing addresses the restriction of certain hazardous substances used in electronic and electrical equipment (Directive 2002/95/EC).

The core purpose of EU RoHS regulation is to protect human health and the environment by restricting the use of a defined list of hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment. The regulation covers every device up to 1000 VAC and 1500 VDC, and spans 10 categories, including electric lamps, medical devices, household appliances, and control and monitoring equipment.

Since February 2003, the RoHS directive has restricted the use of hazardous substances in every electrical and electronic device, including medical devices and control and monitoring instruments. The regulation also requires safe alternatives to replace the heavy metals.
