Change requests for RoHS 2 exemptions

Hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment (EEE) placed on the EU market (Pb, Hg, Cd, DIBP, Cr+6, BBP, PBF, DBP, PBDE, DEH) are restricted under Directive 2011/65/EU (RoHS2). Activities that are exempt from the hazardous-substance restriction for EEE are listed in the directive's annexes (Annex III and Annex IV). As scientific and technical progress continues, the European Commission reviews those annexes, and directives published by the Commission introduce changes.

Under the project that reviews exemption applications, EU-based manufacturers have requested changes to the Annex III exemptions. The institute that supports the Commission in reviewing RoHS exemption requests has published 29 exemption requests from Annex III on its website to gather stakeholder input. Parties can submit opinions on the exemption requests. Views on 6 exemption requests under the RoHS 2 Directive (3 new and 3 modifications of existing exemptions) were submitted previously in 2015.

How Sistem Patent Kalite supports RoHS exemptions

Sistem Patent Kalite helps clients review the current exemption list, identify whether their products fall within an exempted activity, and follow the Commission's update cycle. Where a change request matters for the client's product, the team supports the technical input that goes into the review.
