How to Obtain a RoHS Certificate
The core requirement for a RoHS certificate is the preparation of a technical file, backed by measurements of the required product tests in an accredited laboratory. Only with that file in place does the RoHS certificate follow.
The final product (where intermediate parts are the end-use article, these can be the subject of testing) is sent as a sample to a RoHS-accredited laboratory for evaluation. Where the required tests confirm that the restricted substances are not present in the product, the RoHS certificate can be issued. Where restricted chemicals are present, the laboratory measures their concentration against the allowable limits and reports on the outcome. The annexes to the RoHS certificate include a technical file describing the relevant analysis. For products that use plastic raw materials, samples of the raw material can be submitted alongside the finished product.
Typical Project Timeline
Once samples reach the laboratory, analytical testing for the RoHS substances typically takes 10 to 20 working days. The technical file comes together alongside the testing and is the reference that allows the manufacturer to respond to customs and customer audits later on.
