What BRC Is

BRC (now known as BRCGS, Brand Reputation Compliance Global Standards) Food Safety is a standard applicable to any food producer or food site. That covers primary processing, packaging, slaughter, canning, and catering operations. It is the reference a site uses to meet retailer expectations for safe food and legally compliant production.

Structure of the BRC Food Safety Standard

The BRC Food Safety standard is organised into 6 sections.

Senior management commitment and continual improvement: for any food safety system to be effective, senior management must be committed to the implementation and to continual improvement.

  • Food safety plan (HACCP): the most effective food safety basis is a plan that meets the international HACCP principles.
  • Food safety and quality management system: a second layer aligned with ISO 9001 principles, particularly around supplier management, traceability, and quality control.
  • Site standards: site conditions, waste management, pest control, and related topics.
  • Product control: product design, allergen management, packaging safety, and related inspection and testing.
  • Process control: safe process controls, weight and volume control, and equipment calibration and maintenance.
  • Personnel: training, protective clothing, and personal hygiene standards.

Why the BRC Standard and Certificate

The BRC Food Safety Standard is recognised in more than 100 countries, with close to 20,000 certified suppliers. It was the first Food Safety standard benchmarked against the GFSI (Global Food Safety Initiative) requirements, and remains one of the reference GFSI-recognised schemes.

Customer Confidence

For companies aiming at the global market, BRC is one of the strongest references for demonstrating a working food safety system to customers and suppliers. Beyond food safety, the standard supports higher customer satisfaction, waste reduction, and fewer rejected products. Used correctly, it reduces cost over time.

Accessible Standard at a Reasonable Cost

BRC was developed by food industry specialists and is accessible to read and apply. The scheme explains risk identification and the step-by-step certification route clearly. The certification process has a defined structure and local certification body fees, with no hidden charges. Properly implemented, the BRC Food Safety certificate has a cost-reducing effect over the operating cycle.

Auditors Around the World

Auditing is delivered by a global network of experienced auditors. The audit methodology is standardised and monitored under the scheme's own controls, so certificates issued in different countries carry the same weight.

Sistem Patent Kalite supports BRC Food Safety projects end to start, with consultancy offices serving clients in Istanbul, Izmir, Ankara, Bursa, Adana, Eskisehir, Konya, Antalya, and Kayseri. Our focus is quality management and audit-ready delivery on first attempt.
