BRC Certificate
The BRC Storage and Distribution Standard, first issued in 2006, was developed to complete the food safety chain between food producers and end consumers or food service operators. The standard sets best-practice requirements for the handling, storage, and distribution of products, and it covers the core rules for storing and handling food alongside the BRC food safety requirements.
The standard is organised into 8 sections:
- Senior management commitment and continual improvement
- Hazard and risk analysis
- Quality and document management system
- Site standards
- Operational requirements for the distribution fleet
- Facility standards
- Good practice requirements
- Personnel
The standard also defines voluntary modules. These include vehicle parking conditions, waste management, and wholesale and contracted services. It applies to operations with differing operational networks. Built with input from sector representatives, certification bodies, and retailers, the standard is anchored on a quality management system and a risk analysis foundation.
Customer Confidence
The BRC Storage and Distribution Standard is a strong reference for operators in emerging markets and for companies aiming to join global supply chains. Many retailers, brand owners, raw-material processors, and packaging converters worldwide reference the certificate in their supplier approval process. The certificate and logo can also be used in marketing material and on the company's website to support commercial positioning.
