What the GLOBALG.A.P. Certificate Is

The GLOBALG.A.P. certificate is a farm assurance standard that sets defined quality and safety criteria for the production, processing, and marketing of agricultural products. The scheme exists to encourage safe, healthy, and environmentally sound practice in agricultural production and trade worldwide. GLOBALG.A.P. assesses producers, farms, and agricultural operations against a defined set of criteria and issues the certificate on conformity. The scheme is a practical tool for raising product quality and safety, supporting environmental sustainability, and standardising agricultural production.

GLOBALG.A.P. responds to a well-known global pressure: drought, limited arable land, and changing diets push down available produce, driving agriculture to find new approaches. Consumer awareness, fed by broader media reach, has pushed buyers away from products made using questionable inputs, and producers and market-leading firms have had to respond.

Originally founded as EUREP (Euro-Retailer Produce Working Group), the scheme added GAP (Good Agricultural Practice) to its name and became GLOBALG.A.P. in 2007. Its role as a market-access reference grew as EU retailers adopted it as a condition of supply for fruit and vegetables entering the European market. For firms targeting the European market, the certificate functions as a product passport.

GLOBALG.A.P. in Turkey

In Turkey, the scheme's adoption is supported by the Ministry of Agriculture's push on Good Agricultural Practice and by the preference of major domestic buyers for GLOBALG.A.P. certified produce. It continues to expand as the reference for export-oriented agricultural supply chains.

GLOBALG.A.P. builds on management system principles and draws on ISO-based certification body rules, issuing sector-specific standards under that framework.
