Scope of IFS PACsecure Packaging Certification
What IFS PACsecure Covers
IFS PACsecure is a quality and safety standard for packaging materials that applies to both primary and secondary packaging across different manufacturers. Generic HACCP frameworks and workbooks are provided by the PAC (Packaging Consortium). IFS PACsecure sets the expectations for a common, structured food-safety approach across suppliers of packaging into the food chain.
Material Categories Covered
IFS PACsecure was developed for manufacturers of the following packaging materials:
- Other natural materials
- Flexible packaging
- Paper
- Rigid plastic
- Metal
- Cups and trays
Primary vs Secondary Packaging
Primary packaging is in direct contact with food; secondary packaging provides grouping, protection, and transit support. IFS PACsecure addresses the different hazards these two categories carry. For primary packaging, migration and contamination risks are central. For secondary packaging, cross-contamination during transport and storage is the focus.
Integration With HACCP
IFS PACsecure asks operators to apply HACCP principles adapted to packaging-manufacture hazards: material composition, ink and adhesive migration, and hygiene conditions in the production environment. A documented hazard analysis and critical control points plan is central to certification.
Certification Process
Certification follows a gap analysis, documentation review, and on-site audit under a recognised certification body. Sistem Patent Kalite supports manufacturers through each stage, from initial gap assessment to corrective-action closeout after the audit.
