The practical effect of adopting ISO TS 16949 is a tighter link between process performance and customer-specific requirements. Where production variability and defect rates were previously tracked in isolation, the standard ties them to the management review and to supplier oversight, so that the whole supply chain works to the same discipline. Note that ISO TS 16949 has since been replaced by IATF 16949, which is the current active automotive management system standard.
