What FAMI-QS covers

FAMI-QS is the quality and safety system for specialty feed ingredients and their mixtures. Since 2004, FAMI-QS has worked with industry representatives to build a code suitable for the animal-feed sector.

FAMI-QS is a non-profit organisation set up by the feed industry to operate a third-party certification scheme centred on feed hygiene regulation, the feed-ingredients industry, feed expertise, and feed-safety management.

FAMI-QS is a verifiable safety-certification code for animal-feed additives and ingredients. The scheme is audited to keep unsafe feed out of the food chain, with quality and legal conformity reviewed throughout.

Within the requirements for feed traceability and feed hygiene, FAMI-QS covers the conditions needed to keep hazards under control before feed reaches the market and to ensure safe consumption by the animal. When these conditions are met, feed firms and feed producers can qualify for FAMI-QS certification.

The aim of FAMI-QS certification is to prevent feed that would create a risk from entering the food chain, to keep production aligned with legal requirements, and to provide audit-based certification for quality feed. The scope covers feed hygiene regulation, specialty feed materials, their mixtures, and the hygiene and safety conditions that apply across the full feed chain, together with the requirements for feed safety.
