What VDE does

Knowledge transfer

VDE records effective knowledge transfer between researchers, developers, and users, supported by its work on technical, scientific, and industry standards in the field of product testing, both nationally and internationally.

Continuing education

VDE is one of the largest providers of continuing education in electrical engineering. With around 67,000 participants, it represents the interests of students working in information technology.

Technology and education policy

VDE advocates for engineers, scientists, and students working on emerging technologies by promoting political and public support in this area.

Young-talent promotion

VDE supports both established professionals in science and technology and young talent. Each year, VDE awards and scholarships for talented students, graduates, and young scientists are granted through competitions held in several countries.

International standardisation

VDE works to raise the level of internationally harmonised industry standards, including those confirming hand-tool safety. DIN (the German standardisation institute), DKE (the German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies), and VDE are the national standardisation bodies in this field.

Product testing and certification

VDE, the German testing and certification institute, tests around 100,000 products each year with a staff of more than 500.

Global services

VDE in Asia is represented by VDE Global Services GmbH, which runs local testing facilities and product certification for global markets.

Publications

Industry-standards experts produce a range of publications covering books and technical journals.

Innovation and technology

VDI / VDE Innovation+Technik GmbH coordinates support programmes for technology policy on behalf of federal and state ministries in Germany.
