What is RoHS and the RoHS certificate?

What is the RoHS certificate? It is a certificate issued after the presence of restricted or banned substances in electrical and electronic products is examined through defined tests.

The RoHS certificate aims to restrict the use of substances identified as harmful to human health and the environment in defined product groups, in line with the European Union directive 2002/95/EC.

For whom is the RoHS certificate mandatory?

RoHS affects manufacturers, sellers and distributors of electrical and electronic products and parts that are directly placed on the market in countries covered by the directive. A firm that sells a product containing a substance within this scope cannot sell it or place it on the market.

Restricted substances in products covered by RoHS

Lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyls, polybrominated diphenyl ethers, bis phthalate, benzyl butyl phthalate, dibutyl phthalate, diisobutyl phthalate.

How do you obtain the RoHS certificate?

If your product falls within the scope, the product and its parts are tested in accredited laboratories qualified for this subject. If the product does not contain harmful substances above the limits set by the RoHS directive, the RoHS certificate is issued. We manage the whole process for you, up to the issuance of the certificate. The only thing you need to do is prepare the product sample.

RoHS is a regulation that has spread beyond Europe as well. With the rise in cancer cases and growing concern over substances affecting air, respiration and daily use, more products will likely be brought within the scope of this directive over time. Companies need to start working on these restricted substances now.
