GMP FEFCO Certification
GMP FEFCO Tests
The GMP FEFCO tests carried out on corrugated-board packaging boxes are listed below.
Board Thickness Test
Measures the thickness of the corrugated board in micrometres.
Grammage Test
Measures the weight of one square metre of corrugated board sheet.
Edge Crush Test (ECT)
Applies pressure parallel to the flutes of the corrugated board to measure crush resistance. This is one of the most important tests for stackable packaging.
Flat Crush Test (FCT)
Applies pressure to the surface of the board to measure resistance to flat crushing.
Burst Test
Applies pressure to the surface of the corrugated board sheet to measure burst resistance.
Puncture Resistance Test
Measures the resistance of the corrugated board surface against a piercing force.
Ply Bond / Adhesion Test
Measures the adhesion strength between liner and fluting layers.
Water Absorption Test (Cobb)
Determines how much water the corrugated board absorbs in a given time. Bending stiffness tests are also conducted.
The bending stiffness test measures the flexural elasticity of the corrugated board in directions parallel and perpendicular to the flutes.

Testing in Context
Test results must be evaluated against the specification of the packaging: same tests on different products can pass or fail depending on the intended stacking height, humidity, and shipping route. A qualified laboratory sets reference values and assesses the result in light of that context.
