ISO 14001

What Was Revised in the ISO 14001:2015 Standard?

ISO 14001 environmental management system certification covers the air, soil, water, natural resources, plant and animal life, and human environment present at a production site, and the way they all interact. It is a structured approach that pays attention to environmental impacts at every stage, from the first step of production to the moment a product reaches the consumer.

Following natural and political developments, the ISO 14001 standard went through a revision. The topics revised in the ISO 14001 standard are:

  • Risk-based approach
  • Scope and applicability
  • Documented information
  • Performance and evaluation
  • Management review
  • Life-cycle perspective
  • Control of outsourced processes

Companies should pay close attention to these points when working on the ISO 14001 environmental management standard.

The first version of ISO 14001 was issued in 1996 and was the second standard certificate to follow ISO 9001. Later on, the ISO 14001 standard was revised again after 2004. Through training, normative work, audits, and certification activities all delivered from a single point, certification bodies in the sectors they serve work hand in hand with their customers and create a positive impact on their fields, on people, and on environmental factors.
