Documents required for a patent application

The section that describes the invention in detail. Another key point in a patent application is identifying close alternatives, the differences between the invention and those alternatives, its advantages, any disadvantages, the technical problem it solves, and the technical novelty it offers. The description has to be written by a subject-matter expert.

Abstract of the invention

The section that summarises the invention's subject and the improvements it introduces.

Technical drawings

Drawings or photographs of the invention, with detailed parts, and with supporting components named and numbered on the technical drawing where applicable.

Claims

The sections of the invention the applicant wants to protect, stated one by one, with details about what must not be copied. Including this information in the patent application is what makes it possible to block imitations later.

Documents

The other documents the official authority requires. These cover the applicant's personal or corporate data, the inventor's information, and the power of attorney.

Once the content-based registration file is ready, the patent application can be filed with the competent authority.

Where is a patent application filed?

In Turkey, Sistem Patent, as a registered patent agent, is authorised to carry out the filing. Protection in other countries requires separate international applications.

International protection is obtained through the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), handled under Sistem Patent's guidance.
