What is ASC?

ASC stands for Aquaculture Stewardship Council. It was founded in 2010 by the Dutch Sustainable Trade Initiative (IDH) and has global reach. The ASC certificate aims to be the world's leading certification and labelling programme for responsibly farmed seafood.

ASC's primary responsibility and goal is to develop and manage global standards for responsible aquaculture. Its objectives are to:

• Work with seafood producers, processors, retailers, food companies, scientists, conservation groups, and consumers
• Reward responsible aquaculture through its seafood-labelling programme
• Help buyers make the best social and environmental choice when purchasing seafood
• Contribute to sustainable seafood markets
