How the PAS 220 Certificate Is Obtained

Operations in the food chain are eligible for PAS 220 certification. PAS 220 was developed to support ISO 22000 and its practice. For this reason, PAS 220 runs in parallel with the ISO 22000 food safety management system. The operation first sets up the ISO 22000 food safety management system and supports the prerequisite programmes defined under that system with PAS 220.

Sistem Patent Kalite recommends that operations pursue PAS 220 certification together with ISO 22000. In practice, not every ISO 22000 certified operation in Turkiye meets the PAS 220 requirements, because training and consultancy during the ISO 22000 phase were not always thorough. If the operation already runs an ISO 22000 food safety management system, we review it first and integrate the PAS 220 prerequisites and practices into that system. Operations that do not yet run ISO 22000 should build the PAS 220 prerequisites and practices together with the ISO 22000 framework in an integrated way. We find it more useful to build PAS 220, ISO 22000, BRC Food, and IFS in an integrated way, so that when additional certificates are requested later (BRC, IFS, etc.), there is no need to repeat training and consultancy work.
