Core Principles of the ISO 9001 Certificate

For ISO 9001 to be successfully built and operated in an organisation, senior management has to be able to act on the principles that underpin the standard. Eight quality management principles sit at that foundation.

Sistem Patent Kalite, as the ISO 9001 consultancy, sets them out below.

1. Customer Focus

Organisations live in relationship with their customers. That is why the current and future needs of customers have to be understood, customer requirements met, and customer expectations addressed. This means focusing the organisation on the satisfaction of the customer and the audience that the management or the organisation exists to serve.

2. Leadership

Leaders set the organisation's purpose and its forward direction. Leaders create the environment in which staff can work towards the organisation's defined objectives. Leadership covers both a manager's actions and their conduct. Effective management and leadership skills, instinct, and personal experience define the steps from managing to leading. A leader is not just anyone, but has the traits that make them a leader. A leader guides people not only by those traits but by the way they act.

3. Engagement of People

Staff at every level are the organisation's assets and their full engagement puts their capabilities to work for the organisation. Engagement means every employee using their physical and mental effort to raise the organisation's performance and service quality, using the upward and downward communication channels well, doing their work carefully, and meeting the needs of the staff in other functions.

4. Process Approach

The desired results are reached more efficiently when activities and related resources are managed as a process. Work in an organisation is made up of many related stages. Process management can be described as defining those stages, analysing their relationships, assigning process owners, and setting the standards against which process performance is measured.

5. System Approach to Management

Describing, understanding, and managing related processes as a system contributes to the organisation's ability to deliver on its objectives more effectively and efficiently.

6. Continuous Improvement

Continuous improvement is a permanent objective across every activity of the organisation. Nothing is ever finished. The work of advancing and improving goes on, and the organisation moves towards new objectives on the continuing path of renewal. At the heart of this cycle is the plan-do-check-act loop.

7. Factual Approach to Decision Making

Effective decisions rest on the analysis of data and information. Putting the core information to work systematically is how the organisation assesses correctly, measures correctly, reaches correct conclusions, and does the right work.

8. Mutually Beneficial Supplier Relationships

The organisation and the companies that feed it are interdependent, and a relationship built on mutual benefit raises the value-creating capacity of both sides.
