Turkey and UAE Strengthen Halal Trade Partnership

The 9th Session of the Turkey and United Arab Emirates Joint Economic Commission has concluded.

Deputy Prime Minister Simsek said in his remarks that the two delegations held productive talks, and welcomed the new framework agreed for deeper bilateral trade and financial ties. He stated that Turkey supports putting the agreement into force and implementing it as soon as possible, and noted Turkey's interest in deepening the partnership on Islamic finance.

Market Access for the United Arab Emirates (UAE)

Simsek said Turkey wants to expand cooperation with the UAE on innovation, which is central to economic development, and on technology, education, renewable energy, health, space, and transport. On halal food, he conveyed Turkey's intention to advance joint work within the Standards and Metrology Institute for Islamic Countries.

From the Turkish side, the goal is to expand halal trade with Islamic countries and to remove technical barriers. Turkey wants products certified by Turkish Halal Conformity Assessment bodies to enter the UAE market without requiring additional accreditation, a statement on the Turkish side indicated.

UAE growth target: between 3% and 3.5%

The UAE representative said the two nations will continue to meet on matters of shared importance in the years ahead, and noted that Joint Economic Commission meetings will not be spaced out as long as the previous 6-year interval. Following the discussions, the minutes of the 9th Session of the Joint Economic Commission were signed.
