ISO Leather Technical Committee Meets in Istanbul
Alongside Turkey's standard-setting work at ISO, the 17th meeting of ISO/TC 120 and its subcommittee was held in Istanbul. Turkey co-hosted the meeting with the Turkish Leather Industrialists' Association.
Delegates from 15 ISO member countries attended. The committee reviewed its work plan and agreed that members would submit their comments. Work in progress by the main committee and its subcommittees was also reviewed.
To raise awareness of leather production globally and in Turkey, a proposal was submitted for two new international standards on the preservation of raw hides and skins from bovine and ovine animals. Turkey took part in that discussion.
ISO/TC 120, whose secretariat is held by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), has 26 full members including Turkey, the United States, Germany, the United Kingdom, China, and Spain, along with 30 observer countries. To date, 21 international standards have been published as a result of the work of ISO/TC 120 and its subcommittees. The next meeting of the committee will take place in India in February 2017.
