25th Quality Congress Underway
If we define ourselves as part of the quality community or as people who think with discipline, the concept of the normal is central to our work and carries real weight. It is also a matter of conviction. Wherever we look, we run our processes on rules already agreed upon, rules that have been shown to work, to be useful, and to do no harm.
The rapid rise of technology. New developments in money and finance markets. Falling growth rates across many countries. Shifts in the balance of global power. Generation labels that overshadow the existing ones in the alphabet. The rise of the concept of being different among millions of alternatives. Smart systems built from smart phones, smart cars, smart buildings, and even smart tea makers. Communication that has turned the world into a global village. Changes, developments, and transformations we cannot finish listing.
All of this makes it inevitable that a new normal emerges for this changed world, one where the lifespan of a product or service grows shorter every day and the definition of quality itself shifts.
If we take today's normal as our reference, what lies on the horizon will look to us like madness redefined. Just as in the king's story that opened this piece, where everyone changes their own normal, we need our own new normals.
This year, with your cooperation, we will work together on the new language, the new developments, the transformations that have not yet happened but are expected, and the new normal.
